Description

The boys, girls and men of Bath Abbey Choir sing a selection of 24 well-loved hymns. Most are sung to the great tunes, known across the world, but also included are a couple of rarities, or alternative tunes, which deserve much wider recognition.

Many of the hymns have exciting arrangements, including Richard Marlow’s extended arrangement of “A great and mighty wonder’, with its double descant, Parry’s original setting of ‘Dear Lord and father of mankind’, and an extended version of “There’s a wideness in God’s mercy’ to Maurice Bevan’s incomparable tune, which has rapidly established itself as a classic hymn.

Joining the Abbey Choirs in a few of the larger hymns is a congregational choir, made up of singers from local choirs, and members of the Abbey congregation.

An up-lifting and inspiring disc!
