Regent is a recording company started in 1988 by Gary Cole, who obtained music degrees and awards from the Royal College of Music and Cambridge University, where he held an Organ Scholarship. He also obtained the Coventry Cathedral Recital Award in the Fellowship examination of the Royal College of Organists, and has made several recordings with his own chamber choir – one of which was a BBC Radio Three Building a Library 1st choice recommendation. He is an experienced church musician having been Director of Music at St Peter’s Collegiate Church, Wolverhampton from 1998 to 2001.
In 2020 the RSCM awarded Gary Cole, HonRSCM for his exceptional contribution to the cause of church music at national and international level.
In 1994 Gary’s wife, Pippa – a former Choral Scholar at King’s College, London – took over the administration of Regent Records. In addition to scientific and business experience, Pippa sings in various groups and has taken part in many radio broadcasts and commercial recordings.
Over the years a significant proportion of our work has included producing master tapes for other record labels, and we have a reputation as one of the top classical location recording companies in the UK. We have produced over 800 CD recordings – many award-winning – working with companies including Amon Ra, ASV, Carlton Classics (Pickwick/IMP), Chandos, CRD, Hyperion, Marco Polo, Meridian, Naxos, Nimbus, and Olympia, as well as releases on our own label and programmes for BBC Radio Three.
