Description

An unusual collection of organ music for the Christmas season played on the historic 1907 Walker organ of Bristol Cathedral.

Peaceful lullabies to riotous toccatas encompass the entire gamut of Christmas spirit in rarely recorded works by composers from the 19th to 21st centuries.

Includes Thomas Trotter’s arrangement of the ever-popular Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson, and the first recording of Christopher Shiner’s hilarious Rejoice and be merry.

Reviews

‘Walton’s programme has been exceptionally well chosen for the rare nature of most the items…. David Briggs’s brilliant Sortie on ‘In Dulci Jubilo’, Basil Harwood’s wonderaul ‘Christmastide’ and several other superb items make for an impressive CD, excellently recorded by Gary Cole.’ International Record Review December 2013

‘ I also much enjoyed Regent’s collection of Christmas organ music, Rejoice and be Merry!, played at the organ of Bristol Cathedral, a mighty beast he tames with some especially beautiful, quiet music, notably Samuel Barber’s Chorale Prelude on Silent Night. There is also an exhilarating transcription of Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride’  The Mail on Sunday 22.12.2013
