ORDER DIRECT FROM MARGARET PHILLIPS

“Gary Cole’s engineering is as ever, top-drawer, matching Margaret Phillips’s superb musicianship” Gramophone awards issue 2011

Two CD set – each disc is a self-contained recital featuring major works, a trio sonata, a concerto and a selections of chorale preludes.

Disc 1    Features one of the worlds most iconic historic organs, built in 1738 by Christian Müller, in St Bavo’s church in Haarlem.
Disc 2    Features the large 2004 Bernard Aubertin organ in St Louis-en-l’Île, Paris. Built in eighteenth-century German style this instrument is a similar size to the one in Haarlem and offers a fascinating comparison.

Repertoire includes some of Bach’s largest works for organ, with the Prelude and Fugues in Eminor (‘Wedge’) and B minor at Haarlem and the Fantasia and Fugue in G minor at Paris.

“Gary Cole at Regent, who has always been a master in the refined art of capturing an organ on disc, ambience and all, seems to have excelled himself…. these are organ recordings par excellence…..Listening to this disc is a real aural delight. Phillips is certainly an uncannily vivid and perceptive interpreter……Some of the finest performances of Bach Chorale preludes on disc.”  International Record Review, reviewing Vols I & II
” Both discs make satisfying recitals in their own right. Taken together they constitute a feast”…Gramophone October 2010 reviewing  Vol V
