    Wagner at the Organ
    The transcriptions of Edwin Lemare
    Jonathan Vaughn
Organ of St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol

"Wagner transcribed by the great English concert organist Edwin Lemare, and played by Jonathan Vaughn on the magnificent romantic Harrison and Harrison organ in the church of St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol…loads of colour and dynamic range, and these transcriptions are magnificent vehicles for an instrument like this one. Vaughn’s command of the swell pedal and the different combinations at his disposal is especially effective in the Tristan Prelude and Liebestod and Funeral March from Götterdämmerung, and the slightly soft-edged recording catches the impressive thunder of the Ride of the Valkyrie. ‘Wagner at the Organ’ – Lemare’s transcriptions from Regent Records, new for May." BBC Radio 3 CD review May 2013

"...a novel collection of Edwin Lemare's succulent showpiece transcriptions, skilfully despatched by Jonathan Vaughn at the magnificent Edwardian organ of St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol. The right word for this CD, I think, is 'rousing'".
The Times Friday June 7 2013

"Wow! ... Incredible!...If you like Wagner. If you like the sound of the pipe organ. Heck, if you have a beating heart, you have to hear this."
    Classical Music Sentinel May 2013
"A really enjoyable recording - makes one want to visit this organ again!"
    The Organ Club Journal 2013-2

'Above all, this is a strong recording of a talented organist and a fine instrument. Do not listen expecting to hear Wagner’s music performed like a symphony orchestra. With the vast recorded output of Wagner’s works, even the most orchestral-inspired organs fail to capture the sounds of symphony orchestras. But the works on this record are most enjoyable on their own terms as part of a living tradition of organ transcription and performance, and not  as imitations of the original.' American Record Guide July 2014

Released for the Wagner bicentenary in May 2013, the first disc by a British organist entirely devoted to Wagner, and a major contribution to the small discography of Wagner transcriptions for a solo instrument.

Wagner’s major orchestral works, including the Overture to Mastersingers and Ride of the Valkyries, in virtuoso transcriptions for solo organ by Edwin Lemare.

Played by Jonathan Vaughn on the 1911 Harrison and Harrison organ of St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol – regarded as one of the finest high Romantic organs ever built.

Jonathan Vaughn is a former organ scholar of St John’s College, Cambridge, and is most often heard accompanying the world-class choir of Wells Cathedral in his capacity as assistant organist of the Cathedral.

This debut solo recording from Jonathan Vaughn demonstrates his supreme virtuosity in powerfully dramatic repertoire, as well as the immense range of tone colour of the Redcliffe organ, and will capture the imagination of all lovers of Wagner’s music.
